Our Salisbury based client is looking to add a Health and Safety Manager to join their evolving team. You will be supporting the Site Senior and assisting in developing and delivering the best in class Health and Safety solutions.

You will be involved in providing competent advice at all levels to ensure the highest possible standards of Health and Safety Management is achieved in compliance with their Health and Safety Policy and to lead the development and implementation of the site Health and Safety Strategic Plan.

Key Responsibilities for this role include:

  • To promote a Health and Safety culture, encourage strong leadership through competency, worker engagement, behaviours etc.
  • To assist SLT & OT members in setting SMART health and safety objectives for their teams. To plan, implement and maintain a robust H&S Management System
  • To develop and undertake external and Internal Health and Safety audits to ensure continual improvement across the site.
  • To set priorities to prevent accidents and reduce employer liability claims.
  • To facilitate delivery of local strategic objectives and continued development of ongoing strategy which is aligned with Bread Business and Group strategy.
  • To lead and facilitate the delivery of Group and local environmental and sustainability plans.
  • To ensure the highest levels of excellent Health and Safety management by providing expert advice across the site to ensure the effective management of all Health and Safety requirements and to maintain compliance with all current statutory and legislative regulations.
  • Accountability for coordination of delivery of the GAP analysis corrective action implementation process against all key H&S business audit standards i.e. British Safety Council and Insurance audit standards.
  • Introducing and implementing in conjunction with the SLT formal Local Health and Safety Strategy that aligns with the overall Bread Business and Group Strategy and vision.
  • Assisting in the development, implementation and reviewing of the company’s Health and Safety policies.
  • Accountable for the coordination of the site blueprint in conjunction with HR to ensure training provisions are in place for the site teams and that H&S leadership training is continually being developed and implemented, including coaching and delivery to teams where required.
  • Developing & undertaking subject specific internal Health & Safety audits.
  • Carrying out and reviewing specific Risk Assessments as required and maintaining risk profiling register on site on a Plan Do Check Act basis.
  • Being actively involved in the management and reduction of risk within the business; inclusive of maintenance of the operating sites master risk profile register.
  • Responsible for assisting site senior leaders and their teams in identifying areas where the prevention or reduction of incident rates or work-related ill health can occur setting in conjunction with Departmental Heads, effective KPI’S aimed at reduction of accident trends.
  • Proactively manage and review health surveillance program operated by Occupational Health provider.
  • Introduce systems to allow leaders, managers and first line managers to focus on core aims set out in strategy document to enable them to identify real safety issues affecting all staff and the organisation.

Key skills and experience to be successful for this role include:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate
  • Member of IOSH or equivalent body.
  • Previous Health and Safety experience at a senior level gained within manufacturing.
  • Understanding of current and proposed Safety Legislation
  • Understanding of current and proposed environmental legislation.
  • Knowledge and experience of Health, safety and Environmental management systems.
  • Strong facilitation, organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritise workload and multitask coupled with an attention to detail.
  • Good Microsoft Office skills (specifically Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Current Full Driving License
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience within a food manufacturing environment
  • Chartered member of IOSH or working towards
  • Environmental qualification an advantage
  • Train the Trainer Qualification
  • Lead auditor standard
  • Diploma Qualified

Consideration will also be given to candidates who may be working within a role that includes a Health and Safety aspect and would like to transfer these skills into a full-time role.

Salary circa of £38,000.00 this is a full-time permanent role.
