We are looking for a Head of HR to work for a charity  based in the South East of England.

Reporting to the CEO you will be leading the HR department and be required to provide expert HR, recruitment, training & development and staff welfare advice and support across the organisation. You will be responsible for guiding and supporting the Executive Team and Trustees, overseeing all people-related matters, policies and programmes.

You will be providing robust and effective leadership on policy management and GDPR in the HR context and will play a key role in devising and leading change.

As Head of HR Your Responsibilities will be:

  • To support the Executive Team in developing a people-oriented culture that emphasises quality and continuous improvement, including the development of values & behaviours that can underpin performance.
  • To provide leadership and vision to the HR function.
  • To develop and oversee implementation of the HR strategy, which will include bringing together HR Business, Recruitment and Training teams into one structure.
  • Lead the development and delivery of a first-rate training & development function in cooperation with specialist staff within the department, including statutory training, training programmes based on organisational need and quality & compliance criteria.
  • Lead on recruitment and retention initiatives that support the needs of the Charity with specific emphasis on retaining key staff by promoting rewarding career paths.
  • Lead on development of performance management and appraisal processes & procedures.
  • Develop HR policies and procedures, maintaining high standards of governance and compliance in line with statutory and best practice requirements.
  • Responsible for ensuring legal compliance is met in all HR activities, whilst managing and mitigating risk associated with employment.

To be a successful Head of HR, you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent with post-graduate CIPD qualification in HRM or HRD FCIPD OR equivalent qualification
  • Post-graduate training and/or qualifications in relevant area such as coaching and mediation, organisational change
  • Post-graduate training and/or qualifications in relevant area such as coaching and mediation, organisational change
  • Certified training in Data Protection practice & management – general or HR specific (Post GDPR)
  • Previous HR team or department leadership experience at executive level, reporting to board level within a health or care environment
  • Broad experience across the range of HR functions, including recruitment, training and development, employee relations, payroll & pensions, performance and conduct management.
  • Experience of leading and implementing HR strategies in line with organisational objectives including training plans, staff policies and handbooks, benchmarking and performance management
  • Excellent working knowledge of employment law and best practice and the ability to apply it practically and pragmatically to solve problems.
  • Experience in managing, developing and delivering recruitment and retention strategies across a multi-discipline workforce.

Ideally you will have Experience of working in the charity and/or educational setting and have had previous experience working as part of a restructuring team. You will possess strong leadership qualities and be confident in working within a large organisation.

You will also Hold a full driving licence and have access to a personal vehicle for business purposes, with the ability to travel between the organisation’s 2 sites on  monthly basis.
