Accounts Manager

Are you an experienced Accounts Manager ideally with a background in legal finance? In your role at Accounts Manager, you'll thrive on accuracy, compliance and leading a team to deliver high-quality financial operations. You'll be managing complex accounting processes, liaising with partners and external accountants and ensuring that financial records are precise and compliant with all regulations. You'll lead and manage the Accounts Department across both branches of the firm, ensuring smooth financial operations and regulatory compliance. Salary is to £40K but negotiable for candidates with legal experience. 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, additional day off for your Birthday, discount on legal services, sick pay scheme

Your main tasks as Accounts Manager include:

  • Oversee the firm’s accounting systems and maintain accurate financial records

  • Monitor cash flow and provide updates to senior leadership

  • Prepare monthly management accounts and annual financial statements

  • Manage payroll, staff expenses, and liaise with external accountants

  • Maintain and reconcile all bank accounts, including client and designated accounts

  • Process payments, receipts, standing orders, telegraphic transfers, and supplier invoices

  • Ensure full compliance with SRA Accounts Rules and Code of Conduct

  • Manage client account audits and coordinate with auditors and accountants

  • Oversee Legal Aid Agency (LAA) bulk fund ledgers and reconcile claims

  • Identify untraceable client funds and process charitable donations in line with SRA guidance

  • Post journals and finalise year-end accounts accurately

  • Work closely with fee earners, partners, and external accountants to support financial decision-making

  • Lead and manage a small accounts team, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance

  • Support internal process improvements and maintain high standards across all financial operations

You'll ideally need to have:

  • Strong bookkeeping and accountancy skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication

  • High level of organisation and attention to detail

  • Ability to lead a small team effectively

  • Proficiency with legal accounting software (e.g., Leap, Xero) and online banking

Desirable

  • ILFM accredited Legal Cashier qualification

  • MAAT or equivalent accounting qualification

  • In-depth understanding of SRA Accounts Rules and legal finance procedures

  • Familiarity with Legal Aid Agency processes and compliance

  • Knowledge of law firm operations and financial workflows
